There are several reasons that you might expect that you have a thyroid problem and many of them include trouble with that particular area while other signs and symptoms have what most people would agree nothing to do with the thyroid. The thing is that the thyroid is a part of the body that is affected by other parts of the body and therefore in return affects other parts of the body when you have thyroid problems. There are a large number of people who suffer from thyroid problems at one stage of their life and this is not uncommon in many of the developed countries around the world. This gland which is located on the neck is vulnerable to infection, disease and cancers as well as hyper activity and under activity. Having an underactive thyroid is a problem that more than 50 million people in America go through each year either from hereditary traits or for reasons that can completely elude doctors.

Most of the literature you read about the thyroid will have a picture of a butterfly on them because the thyroid gland resembles a butterfly which is firmly fastened to the neck. Some of the symptoms of having a thyroid problem include things that are completely irregular like hair lose, fatigue and a slow heart rate. These descriptions would not give the average person any indication that they had a thyroid problem which can be a problem for late detection. Yellow or very dry skin are also symptoms of a thyroid problem which again give no indication unless you where a very competent doctor. By avoiding certain foods and de-toxing your body every now you can help to prevent this sort of problem happening however for some people it does not matter how clean your living is there will always be people that end un with an underactive thyroid.

Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the patient will suffer from having an underactive thyroid, the thyroid being one of the biggest glands in the human body. The thyroid is protected by the thyroid cartilage that you can see in a man’s neck so the thyroid itself can be found just behind these positions. The reason the thyroid is so big is because it performs a very complicated task or two, the main one being the stimulation of energy for use by the body. Having an underactive thyroid will mean that you will produce less energy than normal which will have different effects on a person with each person reacting uniquely. The thyroid is also partly responsible for the control of hormones too.

If hyperthyroidism is found in children it can potentially restrict their growth because of the reduction of hormones released that contribute to metabolism. Without the hormone release in adequate quantities growth plus many other reproductive systems in the body like cell reconstruction and the fighting of viruses and bacteria are affected by the underactive thyroid. The hypothalamus is one of the glands that helps to regulate the release of hormones for the thyroid to in turn release some more hormones so that metabolism can be effective. This gland is part of the reason that the thyroid is not doing its usual job but is in fact slowing day progressively.

For women this problem can cause trouble with many of their systems including the reproductive system for child bearing. Having an underactive thyroid at the time of being pregnant may mean that the child is receiving limited fuel supplies however the doctors can verify this fact for you by maintaining a vigilant watch on the growth of the child in the womb. Females are at a higher risk factor than the men are usually and this increases with age. The older you are the more likely that the chance of getting an underactive thyroid problem might occur. This reduces the risks for women that are worried about side effects related to having children at the time. It is even said that being left handed and having grey hair at a young age in common symptoms of getting a thyroid problem in later life. This does not always mean an underactive thyroid however because there are several problems that commonly affect this part of the anatomy.
